Hello Peeps!

My Aunt sent me this video via WhatsApp and I thought that it was such a great video that I needed to share it here on my blog today to get y’all thinkin’.

When we speak ill of people and gossip about other people’s business behind their backs, we are engaging in an activity that is not pleasing to God AT ALL! I personally repel from people that like to gossip about other people because the way I see it, if a person can chit-chat about another person’s business to your face without any sense of discretion, then what stops them from gossiping about you behind your back? I don’t believe in encouraging such despicable behaviour and that’s why I tell people who want to gossip in front of my face to shut it! Such people cannot be trusted either because it’s like that saying that goes; “People with idle minds, the devil finds work for you to do”.

If a person is complacent, they will run quickly to do evil and will find themselves in trouble because they lack discernment, integrity, prudence and the fear of God regarding their actions. The most important thing that people need to guard apart from what they receive in their hearts is what they say with their mouths. The mouth can be an open tomb or it can be a source of spoken blessings; however, what we say is always a reflection of what abides in our hearts so we must pursue to purify our hearts so that we can purify our thoughts that can turn into actions.

We cannot underestimate the power of words

That is why in the Bible, there is emphasis placed on bridling the tongue because the tongue can:

On the flip side, there are good things we can use our Tongues to do:

  1. We can speak of God’s righteousness through His Word (The Bible) and praise Him all day long with our Tongues

And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness And of Your praise all the day long.
My tongue shall speak of Your word, For all Your commandments are righteousness.

  2. We can speak with wisdom and talk of justice with our Tongues

The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice.

  3. We can extol and give God praise with our Tongues

I cried to Him with my mouth, And He was extolled with my tongue.

Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”

  4. The Tongue of the Righteous has value

The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; The heart of the wicked is worth little.

  5. The Tongue of the wise promotes Health
There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, But the tongue of the wise promotes health.

  6. The Tongue of the wise uses Knowledge rightly

The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, But the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness.

  7. The Tongue is a Tree of life

Proverbs 15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

  8. If you guard your Tongue, you can keep your soul from troubles

Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles.

  9. He who rebukes with their tongue will find more favour than those that flatter with it

He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward Than he who flatters with the tongue.

  10. The Tongue of the learned is given by the Lord to speak a word in season to those that are weary

“The Lord God has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak A word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear To hear as the learned.

  11. The Holy Spirit gives us a new tongue (the Heavenly Language) to speak to the Father (God)
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

  12. Every Tongue shall confess to God

For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.”

  13. Tongues edify the Believer

He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

  14.  Tongues are a sign to unbelievers
Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.

In Canadian Law, Defamation is defined as any communication that tends to lower the esteem of the subject in the minds of ordinary members of the public.[1]

As Christians, we need not to be gossip-mongers nor partake in anything that resembles that which I define as “Idle-talk”. We should guard our hearts from being contaminated by gossip that does not edify our spirits at all. Rather we should speak words that edify others and glorify God in the process and speak blessings rather than contaminate our souls by uttering curses that can kill people’s spirits.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

So for today, focus on learning to bridle your tongue and consider that if you’ve been speaking ill-will against others, repent and the Lord will be sure to forgive you. It isn’t easy to tame the tongue; however, once you understand the power behind your tongue, you will become more conscientious about what it is that comes out of it. Purify your heart because out of the abundance of the heart, your mouth will speak. I pray that this video will get you thinking seriously on the matter of the tongue and I pray that it will bless your spirit today. God Bless You Everybody!  😀
