Today’s post is a contemplation of the following scripture:
5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Sometimes, we can become anxious in life when certain things aren’t going in the way that we imagined they would. We may have many plans in our hearts to achieve certain things but then there are road-blocks placed in front of you to discourage you from moving forward. We cannot be distracted by the obstacles that are placed in front of us from moving forward to where we need to go — which is ahead.
A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.
There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand.
Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counselors they are established.
The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.
The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations.
We can start to judge our circumstances when we observe and compare our lives with others that seem to be having it great on their side of the fence whereas you find yourself feeling like you’re being dragged down into the mud and seeing no end in sight with regards to the muck you see in your own life. Have you ever lived beside neighbors that were nosy, always poking around wanting to know what’s going on on your side of the fence because they don’t want to face what’s going on on their side of the fence? Sometimes, people nit-pick at what’s going on in your life because they much prefer to be distracted with your own dramarama rather than focusing on fixing their own issues that they refuse to face on their side of the fence. These are the people you have to learn to steer away from and avoid or ignore in your life. Do not be distracted by people that want to see you fail in your life and desire to see you struggle. It is obvious that they have low self-esteem and target those that are strong-minded, confident and have an overcoming attitude. I believe that we need to remember that though people may fail you, God’s plan for your life will always remain the same and that would be to prosper you, give you hope and a bright future.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
I have learned over the past few months not to compare myself with others and accept what it is that I have to go through and overcome every obstacle that I face because God doesn’t give you something you cannot handle. Like Shadrach, Meschach and Abed-nego had to face the fiery furnace in Daniel 3 because of their faith in God, we have our own types of fiery trials that we need to face in order to discover how strong our faith is in God. What will it take for you to deny your faith in God?
Some people think that it has to be something big for you to deny your faith, but even the smallest things can cause someone to stumble and deny their faith in God, so the question now becomes, how far are you willing to endure for the faith? I think that as time goes by, you will discover how strong or how weak you are in your faith on the basis of how you endure each trial that you face in your life. If Peter could deny knowing who Jesus was so easily, even after having been one of the closest disciples to Jesus Christ, then it’s no small wonder that there could be some type of weakness in our lives that can be used to shake our faith. This is why we need to remain humble and continue to meditate on God’s Word each day and have it engraved in our hearts so that we remain anchored in what we believe in no matter what trial that we face. We should not be shaken, rather, we must stand firm and not be moved by what we see or hear from what other people do. Always remember what the Word of God says about you. Be strong, be courageous and remember the name above every other Name, Jesus Christ.
I feel that we should not be ignorant nor complacent in our walk with God. Some people enjoy the “blessing factor” of Jesus Christ, but disregard the “trials and tribulations factors” that we each have to face when we have faith in Him. We can’t be “pick-n-choose” Christians in our walk because being a Christian is “The Entire Package” . No one wants to go through the firey trials because we always preach about “blessings”; however, the truth of the matter is is that the reality of the Christian walk means that we cannot and will not avoid trials and tribulations because that is also part of the package of choosing Christ as our Saviour. We have to learn to endure trials and we have to learn what it means to overcome these trials that we will all face at some point in our lives.
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
So for today, meditate on what it means to be a “Christian”, and consider that even when we face trouble, we have to be confident enough to believe that God is on our side. I’ve been through a lot this past year and I am confident enough to say that God is on my side. People can abandon you, forsake you, disappoint you, make fun of you, disregard you and even hate you, but God will always love you and be there for you even in the darkest hours of your life. I trust God to the extent that I know that He is here for me, and if God is for me, who can be against me? You need to trust God to the extent that you are certain that He will always be there for you not matter what trial or battle that you face in your life, Amen! 😀
Romans 8:31(NKJV) – God’s Everlasting Love
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
