Hello Everybody! Today, I would like to touch on a subject that I feel led to talk about. For the past few days, the Holy Spirit has been urging me to tell people that “You should never forget that you are a Christian”. It seems like a “duh” comment, but when you really think about it, how many of us forget that this is our identity? The reason I feel I need to bring this topic up is because lately, we forget that “the enemies of God still hate God, and they don’t care for you either” (I got that from Fred Hammond’s song “No Weapon”) 🙂 . Are you still wondering why bad things are happening to you even though you consider yourself a “good” person, are you wondering why your money is getting tight and you’re running low on resources? Are you still wondering why your family members are acting crazy all of a sudden when things were going well? are you still wondering….?
It’s because you are a Christian.
Spiritual warfare isn’t something that you switch on and off and can go to sleep when you want to. The moment you identify yourself as a Christian, literally, it’ll seem like “All hell broke loose” because that is when you have enlisted yourself into spiritual warfare with the devil and the battle rages on. It’s ever ongoing, ever-present and if you read your Bible, you would know that the Enemy, the devil is a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. If your enemy doesn’t sleep well at night because he is roaming around seeking to steal, kill and destroy your blessings and your life, then why is it as Christians, we put ourselves on “sleep mode” thinking that nothing bad will happen? The battle that you face in your life is not your physical life itself, it is a battle against your faith, and faith specifically towards Jesus Christ as Lord over your Life. What you believe in is what you identify yourself with and believing in Christ is a spiritual battle because Jesus didn’t come to save our physical bodies since we will all die one day. He came to save our souls and our spirits and therefore, what you are up against isn’t anything natural, it is a supernatural battle that manifests itself in your natural world.
We cannot afford to be complacent folks. Persecution is real and it won’t go away just because you decide to put your head under the sand. Every challenge you face right now is in light of the fact that 1.) you are a Christian, 2.) you are a Christian, and 3.) you’re still a Christian. Troubles won’t disappear when what you stand for is a threat to the enemy at all times, Not sometimes, ALL TIMES. That is why we must be vigilant, we have to be alert, we have to remain awake and face the fact that there’s nothing new under the sun, and that in this world you will have trouble, but what does Jesus say? He says, “Be of good cheer, for I have overcome the World” John 16:33 .
The World will impress upon you to adopt a different identity or identities, but as Christians, the fact that you chose Christ, you have made Him become part of your Identity. We can dress in worldly clothes all we want, but if you’ve chosen Christ as your Savior, not even clothes can strip you of that identity. Now, I know that some religious folk will have something to say about that, and I’m not going to argue here about it. Instead, just think of someone like Lecrae. He isn’t dressed up like a typical church person in a suit and yet he stands firm in his belief and is outspoken about his identity as a Christian in the music industry. We can’t limit God with how and who He chooses to use to make an impact on the world by embracing Christ as part of their identity. Stop putting God in a box, God can use a rapper as much as He can use a basketball player, an actor or lawyer, etc to do His will. The whole point is, no matter what your dressed in, if Christ is part of your identity then you shouldn’t forget that you are a Christian.
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
You are Born of God and that is also a threat to the World as we know it. Because as it says in 1 John 5:4, that those that are born of God have the ability and the authority to overcome the things of this world. You do this on the basis of your FAITH. What you place your faith in will determine on what basis you will choose to either overcome or be subdued by the systems of this world. If you choose Christ as your standard, you can overcome, and have overcome; however, if you choose the world as your standard, you are subdued and lack identity because the world’s definition is always in a state of flux. There is no fixed standard when you choose to identify with fads, with what’s “popular” (at the time), and with what’s “cool” and “widely accepted”. Just because something is widely accepted doesn’t make it “right” nor “Christ-like”. If you choose Christ as your identity, then recognize that the Faith you have, is Jesus Personified. Jesus already overcame the world and therefore, you share the same identity as Him by being an overcomer of the systems of this World. He is the standard to your identity. The heart of Jesus remains unchanged toward you and everybody else in the World. He came that we would have life and life more abundantly (John 10:10). The World may change its heart towards you and spit you out countless times, but Jesus is the same Yesterday, Today and Forever. Therefore, you must remain secure about your identity in Him as a Christian.
You cannot afford to be having an “identity-crisis” as it were. If you read your Bible, you will already know that Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the World.
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
Everything regarding your Identity is based on what you KNOW about yourself as a Christian. If you didn’t know the few scriptures that I’ve just mentioned in this post or have just remembered a few of them and not because you have been actively meditating on them for yourself, then you’ve got to ask yourself, how much of your identity as a Christian have you embraced? Do you KNOW who you are in Christ?
Contrary to “popular” opinion, “What you don’t know can hurt you”.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
The biggest tool used against Christians in today’s world is Ignorance. What people don’t know can hurt them. If you don’t know your authority, your ability, your purpose in life, your God, and your salvation, you truly are a lost person. If you don’t know something, then pursue knowledge actively. Laziness and complacency attracts poverty and destruction. If you want to avoid strife in your life, then get to know your God more, and learn more about what He says about you. I don’t have to tell you what to wear, or what to do when all that information is in the Bible. The question is, are you even reading it? Are you simply waiting for a Sunday service to get your Word fix? If you are, you are being Lazy, and you truly don’t know what battle you are facing right now.
Have I offended you? GOOD, because you need to be offended in order to face reality my friend. The Devil doesn’t play, and neither should you by playin’ around. Go back to the source of your Salvation which is in Jesus Christ and read the Word of God (the Bible) to understand what the Word says about you. You have to know how God defines you, rather than remain ignorant and accept any definition that the world has to offer about you. Ignorance is not bliss…ignorance is a curse.
Your God-given identity is not wrapped up in material things, it is a spiritual identity that takes shape in various shapes, sizes and colours since God created each one of us uniquely and we are all said to be Fearfully and Wonderfully made. We seriously haven’t got time to criticize other people prejudicially when Jesus tells us to “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34-35) . Put your biases aside towards other people and focus on understanding your OWN identity rather than poking fun at another person’s identity. That’s just nonsense. When we bicker amongst our fellow brothers and sisters criticizing them on superficial things like their attire, their hair, their skin, the accents, etc, the devil laughs at us because he knows that people are acting like fools if they are busy making fun of their brothers and sisters. It tells the enemy that you simply can’t identify that you are making fun of God at the same time when you do that so STOP IT.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
This topic on knowing who you are as a Christian is a Sermon all by itself. I could go on and on, but I just wanted to touch base and let you know that what I felt led to capture in this post today is this message that the Holy Spirit has been urging me to tell people for a while now. And that is,
