My Memory of Yesterday Gone

I said goodbye to Yesterday,

A memory that was nothing but a dream,

filled  with regrets, mistakes, pains that have past,

I live knowing I am redeemed.

I said goodbye to Yesterday,

The shock of wrongs done and depressed by affliction,

I shed my tears of floods and rain

knowing full well I had more to gain.

I said goodbye to Yesterday,

I cannot erase what has been done

only looking forward and forward I run,

towards this unending beaming sun.

I said goodbye to Yesterday,

Yes, Yes, the day is  already done.

Tomorrow is coming, I stand to sing,

Yesterday is truly gone.

  1. Beautiful poem here, would be a beautiful song to be honest. You can guess that your girl was singing it. I guess I’m in that type of mood actually working on something before I type it up and share with ya’ll!

God Is So Good! God Bless 🙂

Lets both say GOODBYE TO YESTERDAY, AND HELLO TO 2012. A JOURNEY WITH GOD IS HERE TO STAY AND BRING US CLOSER TO HIM!

    • Amen to that PJ! You know after I wrote it I kind of thought that I could write a song about it but made it a poem instead. God has been soooo good. I only want to look ahead and not look at what’s behind me anymore. Thanks for reading and God bless us all into 2012 🙂

  2. How absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing this poem. It is so freeing to say good-bye to the past. Sometimes it can even be good memories that hold us back. It’s a comfort to know that God was with us yesterday, that He is here this very moment and is in the future awaiting our arrival. How calming to know that as we let go of yesterday, and all the would of, could of and should of… He is right there, all the way into tomorrow. Never leaving us alone!

  3. Nightshade, I really admire the way you went from “knowing full well I had more to gain” to
“Tomorrow is coming, I stand to sing”. An extremely well-balanced poem between regret, letting go, and looking forward with hope. Thank you for this New Year’s gift–and a birthday gift for me, as it happens.
