The Girl who Silenced the World for 5 Minutes

I was looking for a video to add as a Weekend Inspiration and found this one. As I watched this UN delegation of 1992 and listened to the words of this young 12 year old girl Severn Suzuki and I thought to myself, her speech was so powerful that the voice of a child’s cry regarding world issues really is as astounding as it should be. She spoke of things that have been in my heart for a long time (since I care about worldly affairs) and would like to share it so that we aren’t just silenced by her speech but are also listening to the words that come out of the mouth of babes. Children are more concerned about the future than adults should be which is sad but I pray that after watching this, we can carefully consider what has or hasn’t changed since 1992? And if nothing has changed…we have to ask ourselves “What will inspire it?”.

Scriptures to consider while watching this video

Psalm 8:2
Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. [Emphasis added]

1 Corinthians 1:27
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; [Emphasis added]

  1. I remember the speech quite vividly. but I had not given it much attention until today. Those were powerful words which I am sure were not exactly hers’. It was an awesome performance from a twelve year. Thanks for sharing.

  2. So very much appreciated the scriptures posted along with your essay and video clip. The top photo is more evocative of that little girl’s heart, is it not? This post needs to be burned on the retinas of all the politicians everywhere!

    • Amen to that Granbee! In fact I think that politicians need to hear this speech year after year until they understand the ramifications of the unjust policies that they choose to institute into their laws that set a standard in our generation. We don’t have to accept the current status quo when we can voice and pray for a change 😀
