Fasting with a Purpose – Hit the Target pt. 3

(Cont’d pt. 3)

6. The Sexual Fast (1 Corinthians 7:1-7)-

Principles of Marriage

 1 Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me:
It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2 Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. 3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 6 But I say this as a concession, not as a commandment. 7 For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that. [Emphasis Added].

This type of Fast is specifically designated for Married couples ONLY. For a Fast between couples, they will have to agree together that they will not engage in any sexual activity during that period of their fast since Fasting is a spiritual exercise and sex is a physical/emotional one that is Flesh related. If a married couple choose to do this fast, they have to be in agreement (Amos 3:3) for a period of time, but if there comes a point where it becomes difficult between the couple to withhold from having sex, Apostle Paul suggests that it is best that they end the fast and come together. Married couples should not give room for temptations that lead them outside of their union. This type of fast is similar to the personal fast except  that it is between two married individuals agreeing to fast together as they seek the Lord for whatever reasons they have need of.  This is a very serious thing that Married couples should understand.

Mark 10:9 (AKJV) –  What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.

7. The 40 Day Dominion Fast (Matthew 4:1-11)-

1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” 5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ” 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ” 8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you,Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ “ 11Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. [Emphasis Added]

The 40 Day Dominion Fast is the type of Fast that I believe is designated to us when we are coming against Satan himself. Now, when I was in the Catholic church, I was taught to Fast for 40 days during the season of Lent in remembrance of what Jesus did but I think that when I look back at this scripture, this Fast serves a different purpose. This Fast is one that is extremely difficult to do because you don’t eat nor drink for 40 days and nights. This Fast is initiated specifically for coming against Satan, The Adversary. You bring your entire physical body into the subjection of the Holy Spirit. Take note that in Matthew 4:1, it states that Jesus was very hungry. This tells me that this is one of the most grueling Fasts out of all the ones that I have mentioned. It heightens you spiritually in that you are able to discern accurately the attack that Satan will come against you with and you will be able to fight successfully provided that you have remained in constant meditation to the Word of God (Bible). In order to be successful in this type of Fast, you have to be completely isolated from the busy-ness that surrounds you in your current environment.

To be Successful in this Fast you will have to understand that:

i.) You can only do this Fast isolated from distractions. I say this because it is highly intense and Jesus was alone in the desert devoid of even plants and vegetation that would cause Him to be tempted to eat and also devoid of water that would cause him to thirst when He focused to pray and meditate on God’s Word as He did this Fast.

ii.) You must understand that you will experience a great hunger during this Fast. Your mental and physical state must go through some serious preparation and resolve before deciding to pursue doing this Fast. This isn’t a joke Fast, it’s one that calls for extreme diligence, perserverance and discipline.

iii.) Satan will appear before you in his fullness to attack you multiple times with temptations when you are at  your most vulnerable point in your Fast.

iv.) You will have increased and extremely sharp discernment at this point that you will be able to see things in the Spirit – such as visions, dreams, revelations, word of knowledge, supernatural visitations etc as well as notice a change in your physical appearance in the Natural.

v.) You can only overcome Satan with the Word of God. This means that during this Fast, you will have to be in constant meditation of Gods Word so that when the Adversary comes, you will be ready to come against his schemes with the Word. You have to be in constant prayer and meditation to be successful.

(Corinthians 10:4)

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.

vi.) When you defeat and overcome Satan’s attacks through obedience to the Word through your prayers and meditation, the Lord will release His Angelic hosts to minister to you for strength (Matthew 4:11).

This is why I call it the 40 Day Dominion Fast. Jesus had dominion over Satan’s schemes through God’s Word.  It is the most extreme Fast that any Christian will have to do and when you understand how it is done, you will know how to prepare yourself for it. I know for sure that I am not there yet to do this type of Fast; however, I will state that we can ALL do this if Jesus could — it’s just something that I haven’t yet learned to practice yet. This is one radical Fast that can seriosuly pull down so much the Devil steals from us.

8. The Fast of Consecration for Repentance ( 1 Joel 1:14-15) –

14 Consecrate a fast,
Call a sacred assembly;
Gather the elders
And all the inhabitants of the land
Into the house of the LORD your God,
And cry out to the LORD.
15 Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand;
It shall come as destruction from the Almighty.

This type of Fast is one I believe to be done by the entire congregation. It is similar to the Mercy Fast except it is the kind that is designated for the Body of Christ to assemble together and seek God for Mercy over the land so that the Lord does not pronounce His righteous judgment over the Land because of institutionalized sin.

The Institutionalized sin that I am referring to here are:

i.) Through the laws passed by our modern day politicians (i.e taking God out of schools is an example and the basic promotion of sin such as legalizing same sex marriage which is against biblical principles);

ii.) Our law makers (Judges and lawyers in courts of law) who help pass these unjust precedents into law;

iii.) Unethical business practices- corruption, white collar crime etc;

iv.) Educational Institutions – those that take God out of school and promote immorality;

v.) Religious institutions – those that practice apostacy and abuse their congregation, including those that persecute the church; and

vi.) Our familial institutions – those that do not believe in God period or cause members to fall away from God by evil deeds and actions.

These are the types of Institutionalized Sin that allow demonic forces to petition God to pass judgment on the Land and all its inhabitants because we open the doors for these things to happen. Notice how I said WE open the doors for these things to happen. I know that many people in the world don’t understand this but if you think of the economic crisis that has hit the world to this day, it is an example that the more we promote sin into the Land, the more legal ground we give to demonic strongholds to punish the land and its inhabitants by attacking their harvest and their prosperity (which originate from God) beyond comprehension.

1 Peter 4:17

17 For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

 In 1 Joel 1 it appears that there seemed to be a pestilence that was affecting the crops and animals of the people that it was something of a grand scale that ended up effecting their economy if you read on:

(1 Joel:16-20)

16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes,
Joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17 The seed shrivels under the clods,
Storehouses are in shambles;
Barns are broken down,
For the grain has withered.
18 How the animals groan!
The herds of cattle are restless,
Because they have no pasture;
Even the flocks of sheep suffer punishment.[b]
19 O LORD, to You I cry out;
For fire has devoured the open pastures,
And a flame has burned all the trees of the field.
20 The beasts of the field also cry out to You,
For the water brooks are dried up,
And fire has devoured the open pastures.

What can we (THE CHURCH) do to stop this??????

The Church can humble themselves before the Lord and Consecrate a Fast of Repentance so that the Lord may lift the curse off the Land (Joel 2:12-17). A church congregation can participate in this type of Fast in a combination of Fasts that is specific to the individual member of the church, as long as everybody in the congregation is Fasting.

The combinations of Fasts that individuals of a congregation can participate in are:

i.) A Partial-fast with those that have health issues;

ii.) A full-fledged fast – no food or water; and

iii.) A liquid fast – drink clear liquids such as water.

2 Chronicles 7:14

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. [Emphasis added]

9. The Healing & Deliverance Fast (Isaiah 58:6; Matthew 17: 14-21)-

The Healing and Deliverance Fast is one needed when you are dealing with:

i.) Generational curses/tendencies;

ii.) Personal bondages that can be sourced from personal sin; and also through

iii.) Undeserved punishment from the sins of others that causes one to be bound in the first place; be it in a physical prison or a spirtually emotional prison.

An example of an emotional bondage could be an abused victim; they can be bound to emotional bondages to things like bitterness, hatred, anger that manifest in the person as a “personality” that potentially could cause one to operate in ways that leave them feeling vulnerable and drive them to do ungodly things that they would not do otherwise had they been in their “right” mind. People operating in this way lack self-control because of these intense emotions  spawned from these undeserved punishments and afflictions that they have suffered. That is why emotions must be goverend by self-control. Demons attach themselves to people who lack self-control so it is important to deal with these intense emotions spawned from undeserved punishment as soon as possible through repentance, prayer and counselling in order to maintain sanity. Some people get delivered faster than others and depending on the level of the stronghold that is on a person’s mind, it may be progressive and take weeks or even months until full recovery. A Healing & Deliverance Fast is required for this type of thing and sometimes the afflictions that are too strong in a person have to be removed by Prayer and Fasting as demonstrated by Jesus in (Matthew 1:14-21):

A Boy Is Healed

14 And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying,15 “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic[a] and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16 So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”
17 Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” 18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief;[b] for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

I believe that if someone is struggling with some serious emotional baggage or if you see a person who seems to be behaving demonized, then they definitely have to pray and Fast in order to discern what “personality” they are dealing with or diagnose if it’s just a medical problem in order to treat the person effectively.

In order to be able to heal the person from their affliction successfully you have to diagnose the root problem/cause for the affliction so that you can cast  it out or recommend medical treatment if it is a medical related issue. I think that such a Fast can only be suggested through a  pre-deliverance counselling session which is a whole ministry on its own. There is so much involved in it in terms of the topic of deliverance that I can’t really get into depth with that here, so for the nature of this post, I will classify the Healing & Deliverance Fast as the kind required for high-level personal problems that can’t be dealt with by sheer will power alone. Individuals need the help of the Holy Spirit and some counseling in order to receive healing. It’s a one-on-one type of thing that may need those that are experienced in this area to handle such issues.BELIEVE that God wants to set you free from feeling bound to these evil bonds. He can restore all that was Stolen from you and return a person to their right mind; however, that takes Faith (Hebrews 11:1 ). I must emphasize that the oppressed victim must have FAITH as a requirement to receive full healing, full deliverance, full recovery of their sanity and health. If they do not believe that God can restore them, then prayer, fasting and counselling will be done in vain. The oppressed individual must have FAITH to receive their Healing and Deliverance completely. What has one to lose in having faith in God if doctors and other methods don’t work to set the oppressed person free?

Isaiah 58:6

6 “ Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?

These are the types of Fasts that I can think of through my personal meditation on the Word. May it shed some light on how we practice it and may it bring us some understanding so that we do things with purpose and hit the right target.
